VT WIN Lunch & Learn: The XX Edge Book Discussion
November 3, 2022
12:00 – 1:00 pm
Did you miss our book club discussion with Patience Marime-Ball and Ruth Shaber, M.D, co-authors of the book The XX Edge: Unlocking Higher Returns and Lower Risk?
We realize that we’re all a little zoomed out and that many of you can’t make that 5pm slot so thought we’d offer a second chance to learn more about the important information and findings shared in the book. This new book is sparking a movement to change the investment paradigm and create space for women in financial decision-making. The XX Edge (Forefront Books – June 21, 2022) reveals a new paradigm of gender-focused investing where more women are placed in decision-making roles and able to optimize their skills across all capital markets — leading to higher returns for individual investors and greater economic growth.
In today’s world, 97.8 percent of allocated investment capital is currently managed by men. What’s more, of the Fortune 500 companies, only 41 are led by women. Barely 14 percent of private equity fund managers are women, and less than 3 percent of venture capital is directed towards enterprises run by women. What most investors don’t realize is that when more women are involved in financial decision-making across all entities that make financial decisions (including governments, private and public companies, investment funds, real estate development, and individual households), money is managed more efficiently and effectively, investments are more profitable, and companies and governments make better decisions that benefit individual investors and ultimately the overall economy. This is the XX Edge.
“The field of gender-focused investing is about to be flipped. Traditionally, the field has prioritized how finance can improve the lives of women and girls and thereby lift families and communities. Consider a different paradigm: one with women at the center of investing as agents and actors, not just as beneficiaries,” say Patience and Ruth. In The XX Edge, Patience Marime-Ball and Ruth Shaber, MD demonstrate the inherent gender differences between women and men and why these differences make women excellent financial decision-makers and investment collaborators.
