Join us on September 28, 2022 as Kay Aikin tells HerStory of her passion for and, her journey in, bringing innovative, clean technology solutions to market.

Kay Aikin is the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Dynamic Grid (part of Introspective Systems), an energy software company based in Portland Maine. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, holding a degree in energy/sustainability engineering. She also provides business consulting across the country for various companies and entrepreneurs related to business structure, technology and market analysis as well as mentoring clean technology startups for the Clean Tech Open. She also sits on the boards of two technology companies focused on the energy transition. She has spent her career as an energy engineer, architectural designer, systems architect and business development executive.

In the past her career was spent as small business owner in the building/renewable industries as well as software. As a business consultant she has had engagements providing technology and market analysis for corporate Venture Capital, Department of Defense contractors, medical hardware device manufacturers, Oil field data analysis and building industry companies.

Over the last few years working with partner, Dr. Caryl Johnson they studied the application of Machine Learning, complex system of systems and systems architecture to the integration of Distributed Energy Resources into the electrical grid as an expansion of her experience in sustainable technologies.

Kay is a recognized Transactive Energy expert and is a regular speaker at conferences on this topic as well as distributed intelligence in the electrical grid. She is on the Board of the Grid Wise Architecture Council (GWAC), one of 13 members setting overall direction for the Department of Energy in the areas for grid modernization and smart grids. She is also a member of IEEE Power and Energy Society, Women in Engineering, Smart Electric Power Alliance, Seismological Society of America. She is an active participant in SEPA’s Transactive Energy Working Group, Microgrids and the Grid Edge group for the Interstate Renewable Energy Council.
