Angel Capital: Effective uses of Time, Treasure and Talent

Join the New Hampshire Women’s Investor Network as we discuss how angels can best contribute to the success of the startups they invest in. We welcome Mary Gale (Associate Professor of Practice, Entrepreneurship Division, Babson College), Jenine Winesuff Rubin (Director of Operations for Innolution and active angel investor) and Sidney Collin (Co-founder and CEO of De Oro Devices) to discuss their experiences as angels and entrepreneurs and how life changes for the companies and their founders as they receive investments of time, treasure and talent from angels. We will explore the difficulties women entrepreneurs face in getting funding, discuss how to  determine what type of capital is best at what stages of a company and consider the ways angels can be supportive.

We hope you come away from the event with a better understanding of the following:

• Knowing how to effectively give time/talent/treasure to organizations as an angel.
• Understanding what types of time/talent/treasure you need from angels as an entrepreneur.

BIOS:

Mary D. Gale
Ms. Gale is an entrepreneur, educator, business leader, and consultant with over 30 years of strategic, marketing, and operations experience in diverse industries including software-based services, biotech-based diagnostics, telecommunications, surface preparation, technology products, consumer products, and education. Ms. Gale has taught many entrepreneurship courses and programs since she came to Babson in 2011.  Her courses and programs cover a broad range of entrepreneurship topics: design thinking, feasibility, founding, managing growth, funding, technology ventures, social ventures, and consulting.
Prior to joining Babson, Ms. Gale was involved in eight start-ups as an investor, director, and/or senior executive. Most recently, she served as CEO of a start-up software services business, Pet Health Network, Inc. She was also a senior marketing executive at IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. during a period of early growth through IPO. She began her career in product management at General Foods.  She currently serves on the board of a company she co-founded, Sponge-Jet, Inc. in Portsmouth, NH (advanced, recyclable, industrial surface preparation technology). She is a Trustee Emeritus at Gould Academy, Bethel, Maine.

Sidney Collin 
Sidney is the inventor of NexStride, and is the co-founder and CEO of De Oro Devices. Sidney started the company while studying Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly. She has an academic research background in computational neuroscience, with a research paper published in the Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology. Sidney was awarded Capital Factory’s 2022 Founder of the Year award, Cal Poly’s Outstanding Woman in Engineering Award, Outstanding Student Award, Lisa Hufford Scholarship Award, and was also identified as one of the most influential women at Cal Poly by the Wire in their 30 under 30 list. The Pacific Coast Business Times recognized Sidney as an accomplished young business leader in their 40 under 40 list as well as their Who’s Who in Health Care, Insurance & Life Science lineup.

Jenine Winesuff Rubin
Jenine serves as the Director of Operations for Innolution, an Agile and Scrum training and consulting company.  She is an active angel investor with Agile Angel Partners and a member of the Board of Directors for Allotrope Medical, an electrosurgical products company, and The Grapevine, a family and community resource center in Antrim, NH.  Ms. Rubin donates her time to a number of organizations including Rockies’ Venture Club (pitch coach, mentor and member of the technology selection committee), eCoast Angels (member of the selection committee), New Hampshire Women’s Investment Network (steering committee and treasurer) and 100+ Women Who Care Monadnock Region (steering committee).

Previously, Jenine worked with a variety of small and medium sized medical device and technology companies focusing on strategic planning and marketing. Ms. Rubin earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California at Davis.
